nos vamos a la soleada EspaƱa.....

I would love to be the person who can actually write their blog on location - alas that will never happen. I will always be out living each minute,  with the passing thought that 'I really must blog this'. But here I am now!

Our flight to Alicante was early, so off we set at 4am - what an ungodly hour! But by 5am we were at the airport, parked and had dropped our bags off. There was time for coffee and muffins and before we knew we were boarding out Jet2 flight. Its only a couple of hours to Spain and even with the time difference we were there and ready to have fun by about 10.30am. We were met at the airport by Jet2 reps and told where to get our transfer bus. The transfer took about an hour, it was so nice to return to the Benilux - we both love this hotel. Even though it was early, they let us check in and we were able to go and find our room and drop off our cases before lunch. We were in a room on the first floor which turned out to be a wonderful thing as we could walk to the restaurant and not wait for the lifts.

Saturday was a lovely warm and sunny day, so after lunch we took the bus out to La Marina shopping centre. It always seems to be quiet there, despite quite a nice range of shops. We had a nice time looking around and bought a couple of things. We had planned to visit Lidl to have coffee in their Bavarian coffee hut (located in the car park!) but when we walked past it was clear Lidl was completely closed for what looks like a big refurbishment. I  was so disappointed, however disappointment turned to trauma when I saw a big truck back into the car park and load the Bavarian coffee hut on it  and drive away!! NO!! So no coffee in the car park this year 😔 Instead we walked on to Carrefour to amble about the big supermarket. Not the best experience I have to say! As we entered a security guard type chappie approached us and whisked our shopping bag away. No explanation, not even a Spanish one we couldn't understand. I am guessing they have a problem with shoplifting as he sealed our shopping bag in a clear plastic one so that nothing else could be added. Not the warmest of welcomes, and we didn't even find anything we wanted. Boo hiss!!

On Saturday night we had dinner at the hotel, it was amusing to see the other guests huddled around the door as if in fear that the food would run out before they could get in there. Crazy really as the buffet is large and constantly restocked. After a nice dinner, we went for a walk along the promenade. A lovely way to end our first day.

On Sunday we woke up to rain and it continued to drizzle and rain all day. Breakfast was a buffet with lots of good things to eat and iced cold cava to drink - totally civilised, lol! After breakfast we decided to have a restful day ambling around the Old Town. We  love the Playa de Poniente area, and its always fun to wander the side streets of the old town. So many interesting shops to explore.
